CPRC endorsed a submission by the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) consultation on the sunsetting and remaking of the Telecommunications (Listed Infringement Notice Provisions) Declaration 2011. ACCAN and CPRC, along with Consumer Action Law Centre and Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association strongly support the remaking of the Declaration. The Declaration, and the infringement notice scheme more broadly, constitute a vital part of the ACMA’s enforcement regime, and ensure that carriage service provider’s compliance with certain telecommunications rules is incentivised.
This submission provides feedback to improve the robustness of the Declaration and suggests improvements to the infringement notice scheme more broadly.
