Renters deserve to live in a safe, healthy and energy efficient home, yet many Victorian renters face unsafe living conditions and excessive energy costs. In collaboration with Anika Legal, Consumer Action Law Centre, this research gives a clear picture of the problems Victorian renters face, based on interviews, surveys, and case studies.
This report looks at:
Victorian renters face energy-inefficient homes, leading to high bills and health impacts
Renters often fix problems themselves
Renters experience delays in landlord responses to repair requests and complaints
Fear of eviction or rent increases prevents renters from requesting repairs
Most renters don’t fully understand their tenant rights
Renters are often dissatisfied with complaint outcomes, many disputes remain unresolved
